Explanation of the Title: Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 140

(Last week we ended with, “If you truly and wholeheartedly are mindfulness Amitabha, you will see it.  It is from a sincere mind that is a mind of proficient diligence. If you do not believe me, why not give it a try?”)

Once you have mindfulness, to have mindfulness Amitabha without distracting thought and delusion, the mind is sincere and composed and you will feel comfortable. Just with this concentration of mind the next thought is the same, thought after thought as such, then your body and mind are composed. After your body and mind are composed, then there is no wave again. Wait until you truly see the bright light of Amitabha Pure Land, it is weird, no matter how you live in this Saha Land all is good and it is all good no matter how you pass your days. Having money or no money there is no feeling at all. Everything people of the world requires there is no need to you. Nothing in your mind and all is bright. 

Do not be mistaken as to having nothing at all, you are not an idiot and that is not dementia. To have nothing refers to being without attachment, delusion, discrimination, and affliction. Without those afflictions, you are crystal clear and better than average people. Why? You have recovered the six supernatural abilities.

What are other people thinking? You are completely clear.  
What is the fate of this world? You are completely clear.  
What will happen the next second? You are completely clear.  

What the eye sees, penetrates the material society, penetrates the universe, and are completely clear of all universal phenomena. The ear hears all the sounds of the universe completely clear. It is entirely without any hindrance and that is called a “normal person”, extremely normal. Those people of Amitabha Pure Land are all normal people. People here are abnormal. Abnormal is due to chaos and besides being chaotic one still one wants to compete which is also annoying. 

Nowadays, the worldly people’s conception is based on the principle of competition, how uncomfortable. After competing and struggling, originally one is a good person, but after birth and being a part of this society, one instantly becomes abnormal – confused and with cognitive distortion; we can relate to that. Since we can relate to it, we must find a way to solve it; at least you must solve your own affliction first. 

All of you have a great causal basis with Amitabha, otherwise it would be impossible for you to be here. Besides a causal basis, you still need to have the good (virtuous) root which is the natural capacity of comprehension. Regrettably, our true nature is short a bit. Why short? It is due to an individual’s different ability of epiphany. 

Therefore, I need to stress again, you must let go of your secular concept. If you can let it go then your ability of epiphany is now present. If you cannot let go, then this lifetime you will not comprehend. Let alone this lifetime, since the past infinite existence of world-periods until today you do not have it and will go innumerable world-periods in the future again. What do you do in these innumerable world-periods? Dream. Everyone reincarnates in the dream. The phenomena of the universe are the third dream that is having a dream within a dream of another dream. We dream at night and after awakening from it then people are become clear. You are mistaken. The term “third” refers to the three layers of dream. 

After escaping from the Three Realms of existence (Triloka – the universe is divided into three worlds of desire, form and formless) like attainment of an Arhat, there are still two layers of dream left. 
After “eradicated one grade of the unenlightened condition, to realize one grade of Dharma Body”, there is one layer of dream left. 
After becoming Buddha and one has eradicated the last grade of “the unenlightened condition as the fundamental worry as the first thought activation of unenlightened and confusion”, you awake from the dream. 
It is difficult. It is hard to accomplish across the infinite existence of world-periods. 
The classification by the school of Buddhism illustrates that:
Elementary School – refers to Arhat. 
High School – refers to Pratyekabuddha.
University degree – refers to Mahasattva, who has eradicated one grade of the unenlightened condition, to realize one grade of Dharma Body.  
Master’s degree – attained the 8th Stage Bodhisattva (as the 48th of 52 cultivation tiers). 
Doctoral degree– attains the 10th Stage the Dharma-Clouds Bodhisattva (as the 50th of 52 cultivation tiers).
After graduating with a doctoral degree and becoming a professor - attains the Absolute Universal Enlightenment Bodhisattva (Samyak-Sambodhi, as the 51st of 52 cultivation tiers).  
After Universal Enlightenment Bodhisattva eradicated the last grade of “the unenlightened condition - the fundamental worry as the first thought activation of unenlightened and confusion”, then one recovers normality to be called Supreme Perfect Enlightenment Bodhisattva (Samyak-Annuta-Sambodhi), precisely is becoming a Buddha in perfection. 
That is truly normal. This kind of analogy all of you understand right away.       

Today we have this method of mindfulness Amitabha, mindfulness directly completely surpasses the doctoral degree. Because of the “cause” when your mindfulness is the “cause” it will inevitably become the “effect” and surpass the doctoral degree, outdoing the professor level of those who work hard and spend their whole life as a professor, and surpasses the professor’s retirement. After retirement, only then will one live days of “purity, equality and enlightenment”. There is no more stress. People wait their whole life for retirement. This is our life today; working hard for a lifetime and waiting for the day to retire. This is so tiresome.

I am like this, I have stated: “person retires at birth.” At birth, one should retire. At birth, one ought to be disillusioned with everything and let go of all, the body and mind has purified without defilement, then help all beings; this is my philosophical view. 

Speaking from the philosophical view of the school of Buddhism: When a person at birth ought to be purified of defiling illusion and bright light, without attachment and affliction, under this kind of condition you can help others, not only help others, but help yourself first. Therefore, I say: “A person retires at birth”.

What is retirement? It is to get rid of afflictions and to cease afflictions.

卷 (九)  精進波羅密

(上星期講到: 真的真心念佛,你就會見到了。是用真誠心,真誠心就是「精進心」。不相信,你試試看?)

你一念,念佛沒有雜念、妄想,心是真誠的,心很定,你會覺得舒服。光是這一念,下面一念也是這樣,念念如此,身心就定了。身心定了後,再也沒有波動。等你真的見到極樂世界光明,怪了,在娑婆世界怎麼住都好,怎麼過日子都好。有錢、沒有錢根本一點感覺都沒有。世間人所要求的一切都不需要,心裡面什麼都沒有,一切都光明的。

什麼都沒有,不是白痴,有的人搞錯了,那不是痴呆症。什麼都沒有,是沒有執著、妄想、分別、煩惱。沒有煩惱這些東西,人是清清楚楚,比一般人腦筋還要清楚。為什麼?六種神通力恢復了。

人家想什麼?一清二楚。

這世界的命運是怎麼樣?一清二楚。

下秒鐘發生什麼事?一清二楚。

眼睛見到的,穿透物質社會,穿透宇宙,所有一切宇宙現象一清二楚。耳朵聽到一切宇宙中的聲音,一清二楚。完全沒有障礙,那叫正常人;非常正常,是正常人。極樂世界的那些人,是正常人。這邊不正常;不正常是因為雜亂,雜亂就算了,還要競爭,也是麻煩。

現在世俗人的觀念,人以競爭為原則,多難受。這一競、一爭, 本來好好一個人,出生到這個社會馬上變態 – 迷惑顛倒,我們都是感同身受。既然感同身受,要找一個方法出來解決,至少你要先解決你自己的煩惱。

在座同修,都過去跟阿彌陀佛有大因緣,不然不會坐在這邊聽。那有因緣,你還要有善根,善根,是能夠了解的根性。可惜根性差一點。為什麼差?個人領悟力不同。

所以我還要再講,世俗觀念一定要能放下,放得下,領悟力就現前了。你要放不下,一輩子領悟不到,不要一輩子,無量劫到今天都沒有,將來又是搞無量劫。

無量劫都是幹什麼?作夢。每個人在這裡輪迴。講宇宙的現象是第三次的夢境,就是夢中夢又夢。以為我們晚上作夢,醒了以後人就清楚,你搞錯了。第三次就是三層,三層夢。等出三界像阿羅漢了,還剩二層夢。等「破一品無明,證一分法身」了,剩一層夢。等成佛了,破最後一品「生相無明」,夢醒了。難!無量劫都辦不到!佛家講:

小學是阿羅漢。中學是辟支佛。大學是法身大士,乃「破一品無明,證一分法身」。「八地」是研究所。而「十地」是「法雲地」菩薩,博士班。博士班畢業了變教授是等覺菩薩。等覺菩薩最後一品「生相無明」破了,恢復正常了,叫「圓覺」菩薩,就是圓滿成佛。那是真的正常了。這樣比喻各位就懂。

今天有「念佛法門」,直接念,完全超越博士班的。因為「因」,念因將來成果,超越博士班、超越教授了,把教授這一生都超越了,退休了都超越了。退休以後才真正過清淨、平等、覺的日子。不辛苦了, 一輩子辛苦就等退休。現在人生就這樣,辛苦一輩子,就看那一天能退休。這個累。

我是這樣的,我說人一出生就退休了。一出生就該退休了,一出生就應該看破、放下,身心清淨,一塵不染,然後幫助眾生,這是我的哲學觀點。

要說哲學觀點,站在佛家來講,人一出生應該是清淨光明的,沒有執著,沒有煩惱,這樣子才能幫助人家;不僅幫人家,先幫自己。所以我說:「一出生就應該退休了。」

退休是什麼?把煩惱退掉,把煩惱休掉。
