02 Sep Explanation of the Title: Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 72
(Last week we ended with, “After uniting with Amitabha to have this kind of absolute pureness, equality, enlightenment and compassion; this is the teaching of Buddha.”)
The teaching of Buddha is not for you to worship someone, to worship Bodhisattva and bow to those religious idols; this is a misconception. No, it is not. The teaching of Buddha is self-education, to educate yourself to be disillusioned with everything and let go of all, using the method of enlightenment theory to practice cultivation. This is the teaching of Buddha.
For 24 hours having body and mind purified of defiling illusions. It is very simple, know when to go and be born to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land, know how long oneself will stay in this world, and to realize oneself can be in this world however long one wishes. To bear this in mind, to be in the world however long one wishes, one chants Amitabha to unite with Amitabha in mind and then one is able to do so. In that case, your body and mind are completely unrestrained, you can live up to 100 years of age, 200 or 300 years of age as you choose because time is controlled by you. Why? You have already transcended time and space, and are unaffected by the time and space of the universe.
Especially after chanting (mindfulness) Amitabha to attain Samadhi (stillness of mind control), it attains the Samadhi of the universe, the Samadhi which is supported by all Buddha, the Samadhi of Amitabha’s original vow, the power of all Buddha and Bodhisattva’s grace and all beings of the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land. Therefore, this minor body of ours means nothing. Then why does it say that one can be in this world and follow one’s own wishes? It is very simple, those who have the connection with you, for instance, after 100 years they will have opportunity to hear your Sutra explaining and teaching expounding, you will stay for an additional 100 years. Bodhidharma came to China, he was already 900 years old, who could tell? Only those with Samadhi efficacy knew.
The numeric of age is not rare and unusual; I have met many one with infinite lives. The ordinary one does not know, the average person’s mind is distracted and completely unaware.
That energy field is fixed and undisturbed for 10,000 years; how does it become? Chanting (mindfulness) Amitabha. The simplest way is precisely to chant (mindfulness) Amitabha. Cultivation of other methods to enlightenment like, practicing Esoteric Buddhism with bodily unity in form of worship, oral unity in chanting, and unity in faith, to be in correspondence with the mind of Tathagata will also obtain this same cognitive sphere. But it is too difficult and hard to achieve. To practice Zen meditation, one even does not have this kind of natural capacity.
What is Zen? It is:
There is not a single thing originally, where can dust be provoked.
Therefore, when chanting Amitabha one must attain Chanting Amitabha Samadhi. When you unite with Amitabha in mind for 24 hours, you have not entered the state of Samadhi. Samadhi is a true internal state of tranquility, exempt from all external sensations. “Chanting 24 hours to unite with Amitabha in mind” attains only a similar state of Samadhi, not the true Samadhi. After you unify with Amitabha in mind for 24 hours, then you will strive even more to start chanting. How to chant? Chanting Amitabha to the last of all, opening your eyes and seeing the Buddha presence; when closing your eyes, the Buddha is in your soul (consciousness).
What is “Buddha”? It is an energy of pureness, equality and enlightenment; it does not exist as an image there. You must not be mistaken about this.
That energy exists when your eyes are open or closed which indicates it does not disconnect or halt. After reaching to a certain extent, one attains the level of “one-pointed concentration without scattering”. In that state, your afflictions of illusion and temptation arise from things seen and thought, and ends automatically.
Honestly speaking, for people to have attainment of “one-pointed concentration without scattering”, in accordance with the way of Hinayana, one’s efficacy of mind control is at what level? Able to cut off a raging current of 40 li (40 x 500 meter) wide in an instant. That velocity of 40 li wide, the speed of the raging current is so fast, you must stop it all at once.
What thing is like the raging current? It is our thoughts.
Our thought moves exceedingly fast, you must able to stop all your erroneous thinking and attachments in an instant. This is the strong skill of the Hinayana school. Arhat does have this skill; if he can turn from the Hinayana school way to the Mahayana school way to chant (mindfulness) Amitabha to go and be born to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land, then he will instantly attain the state of “one-pointed concentration without scattering”.
Common people like us, who have not eradicated one grade of the unenlightened condition, and have not yet cut off one grade of the affliction of illusion and temptation arise from things seen and thought, only based on chanting (mindfulness) Amitabha with full sincerity can also attain the same “one-pointed concentration without scattering” state. If one reaches to that level, even one’s afflictions of views and perceptions has ended, and one is unaware. Many people chant (mindfulness) Amitabha and have attained this sphere and are unaware.
Why does one not know? It is one does not have knowledge of Buddhism, and there is no need to know as well.
Why? The body and mind have already purified without defilement. Every day one stays in a state of meditation called “staying in mirror-like clear perception” which has not reached the state of “wisdom omniscient penetrative ability with crystal-clear perception”. “Staying” means unmoved, and “crystal-clear perception” is its virtuous function which is the light. When we speak of Prajna, Prajna is the virtuous function of Buddha-nature, it penetrates all afflictions thoroughly.

那個磁場一定萬年，怎麼來的？念佛。最簡單就是念佛。修其他法門，修密，身口意 – 「三密相應」，也得這境界，太難！做不到。修禪更沒有根器。禪是什麼？本來無一物，何處惹塵埃。
