Explanation of the Title: Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 80

(Last week we ended with, “What is transmitting the teaching of the Buddha? It is to teach and to enlighten all beings back to the right path, by reproducing oneself infinitely and anywhere to make offerings to all Buddha and Bodhisattva and all beings.”)

 

In Esoteric Buddhism, there is also “the wheel of instruction and command, the wheel of the correct doctrine of Buddha, and the wheel of the indestructible essence of Buddha-nature”. All Buddha possess these three wheels:

“The wheel of the correct doctrine” appears as the Bodhisattva’s body.

“The wheel of command” appears as the luminous king’s body (guardian spirits who are the messengers and manifestation of Vairocana’s wrath against evil spirits)

“The wheel of the indestructible essence of Buddha-nature” appears as the Buddha’s original state of glory as the self-nature Dharma Body.

To this state, paradise and hell are non-duality and no distinction. You neither see the paradise nor see the hell, but also you see the paradise and see the hell; because seeing and non- seeing are non-duality and no distinction. All beings are in their self-nature brightness and are without exception. Basically speaking, this sphere is still the basic enjoyment to become Buddha.

What is surpassing enjoyment of becoming Buddha? It is Buddha’s Pure Land, Buddha’s environment, and all Buddha’s Pure Land of all directions of the universe from the past, present and future. Surpassing in environment where each Buddha is different.

The Pure Land is truly to receive and lead all beings, who is the number one? Amitabha is the number one. His four realms are perfectly integrated: “Realm of All Classes Dwell, Realm of the Temporary, Realm of Permanent Reward and Augustly, Realm of Eternal Peace and Tranquil Light”; the four realms are one. The four realms of Shakyamuni Buddha’s Pure Land are separated.

Our Earth is named the “Realm Where All Classes Dwell”, do we have Saints here? Yes, we have. Does Arhat, Bodhisattva, and Buddha exist here? Yes, but you are unable to see them, they can see you. This is where ordinary beings and sages dwell together.

The “Temporary Realm is the Pure Land of Arhat – the Pure Land of improper nirvana diverges from the truth. You are unable to see them but if you and him have connection, he manifests. No, he will not come.

The “Permanent Reward and Augustly Realm”, do not even talk about it, one cannot see the Arhat. This realm of Permanent Reward is for Mahasattva who have eradicated one grade of unenlightened condition, for those that realize one grade of Dharma Body to dwell here.

The “Eternal Peace and Tranquil Light Realm” only Buddha, Buddha attainment go to Eternal Peace and Tranquil Light.

The Permanent Reward and Augustly is for those Bodhisattva working in stages to attain the Realization of Eternal Peace and Tranquil (Nirvana) Light. Therefore, from the cognitive sphere, the four realms of Shakyamuni are not perfectly integrated, they are distinctly separated. Only the four realms of Amitabha’s Pure Land are united together.

The Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land has three ranks (inferior, middle, superior) divided into nine classes: the superior rank with upper, middle and lower grades; the middle rank with upper, middle and lower grades; and the inferior rank with upper, middle and lower grades.

If today we go and be born to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land, if we go there as the lower inferior, what do we receive for use? We will have the same enjoyment of the Realm of Eternal Peace and Tranquil Light. Not one grade of affliction, one grade of the unenlightened condition has been cut off with the aid of Amitabha’s vow power and you will have the enjoyment of the Realm of Eternal Peace and Tranquil Light. In addition, our classmates are the Maha-Bodhisattva Guan-Yin (Avalokitesvara), Da-Shi-Zi (great strength – Mahasthamaprapta), Wen-Shu (Manjusri), and Pu-Xian (Samantabhadra) of the Realm of Permanent Reward and Augustly.

Currently Guan-Yin Bodhisattva (Avalokitesvara) is the master who is eminent and unapproachable but when going to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land, we are both classmates on an equal footing. In the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land there is only one teacher—Amitabha, who reproduces himself at infinitum and anywhere. If you have any questions, one movement of thought, Amitabha manifests. This sphere was accomplished when Amitabha Buddha was Fa-Zang Bhiksu (Buddhist monk) making this vow during the causal ground of his cultivation, and also it was accomplished by the vow power of all Buddha and Bodhisattvas.  I repeatedly say this is extremely important.

Because most people completely do not know:

What are the nirvana merits and enlightenment virtues of Amitabha Tathagata?

What is his vow power?

Why does Amitabha get praise from all Buddha and Bodhisattva?

Why do all Buddha praise this method of chanting Amitabha to be able to go to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land?

It is because Amitabha Buddha is perfectly integrated in the ocean of wisdom is truly being the master of one’s self. He truly uses self-nature’s “purity, equality and enlightenment” to be the “cause”, to attain self-nature’s “purity, equality and enlightenment” as the effect. Buddha-power self-nature is purity and equality, when you:

Chanting Amitabha is the cause, then become Amitabha is the effect.

This way completes the cause and effect. This mighty cause and mighty effect to bring perfection all beings to go and be born to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land, to become Buddha all one’s life, this is what is for. Therefore, like this kind of sphere, the Bodhisattva of other Buddhist sects, schools of Zen Buddhism and Esoteric Buddhism are all unaware. If one does not come from the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land genuinely, one is unable to know and it is impossible for one to know.

(五 )     慧海圓融

(上星期講到: 「轉法輪」是什麼?教化眾生,以無量分身,供養一切諸佛菩薩,供養一切眾生。)

密教中不是講「有教令輪,有正法輪,有自性輪」,一切佛皆具這三個:「正法輪」現菩薩身。「教令輪」現明王身。「自性輪」是本地風光 – 「自性法身」。到那地步,地獄、天堂,無二無別,亦不見地獄、亦不見天堂,亦見地獄、亦見天堂,見與不見無二無別。所有一切眾生全部在自性光明中,一個不漏。基本上講這境界,這還只是基本受用 – 成佛的基本受用。

成佛的殊勝受用是什麼?是他的淨土,他的環境,十方三世一切諸佛的淨土。環境之殊勝,每一位佛都不一樣。

以真實接引一切眾生的淨土,誰是第一? 阿彌陀佛第一。四土圓融 – 「凡聖同居、方便有餘、實報莊嚴、常寂光」,四土是一土。釋迦牟尼佛的四土分開的。

我們地球叫「凡聖同居」,聖人有沒有? 有。

阿羅漢、菩薩、佛有沒有?有。你見不到,他看得到你,你看不到他,這「凡聖同居」。

「方便有餘」是阿羅漢的淨土 -「偏真涅槃」的淨土。你見不到,你要跟他有緣,他現前,沒有緣,他不來的。

「實報莊嚴」那更不要講,阿羅漢也見不到。「實報土」是「破一品無明、證一分法身」的法身大士,他們居「實報莊嚴」。

「常寂光」只有佛,佛的果位去「常寂光」。

「實報莊嚴」是分證「常寂光」。所以境界上一切佛土,四土不圓融,分開的。只有阿彌陀如來的佛土四土打成一片。

極樂世界「三輩九品」 – 上品上生、上品中生、上品下生、中品上生、中品中生、中品下生、下品上生、下品中生、下品下生。

我們今天要是往生到極樂世界,如果是下品下生去的,我們受用是什麼?「常寂光土」受用。一分煩惱、一分無明都沒斷,得阿彌陀佛願力加持,「常寂光」的受用。「實報莊嚴」這些大菩薩觀音、勢至、文殊、普賢,跟我們是同學。

我們現在,觀音菩薩他是師父,高不可攀;到極樂世界去,跟他是同學,平起平坐。極樂世界只有一個老師阿彌陀佛。阿彌陀佛分身無量,你有什麼問題,一動念,阿彌陀佛現前。這境界是阿彌陀佛在做法藏比丘的時候,因地發願所成就,也是一切諸佛菩薩願力所成就。我一再講這個很重要。

因為一般人都不知道:

阿彌陀如來的功德,他的願力是什麼? 完全不知道。

他為什麼得一切諸佛菩薩讚歎?不知道。

為什麼一切佛讚歎念一句佛號到極樂世界?都不知道。

因為阿彌陀佛是「慧海圓融真自在」。他是真正以自性清淨、平等、覺為「因」,成自性清淨、平等、覺為「果」。佛力自性清淨、平等,你「念佛是因,成佛是果」,這樣成因果。這大因、大果而成就眾生,往生極樂世界,一生成佛,是這個。所以像這樣的境界,教下的菩薩、禪宗、密教不知道。不是真正極樂世界來的,不知道,那裡曉得。
