21 Feb Explanation of the Title: Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 97
(Last week we ended with, “The rich helps the rich people cross over to nirvana, the poor and upright ones help people who are poor and upright to cross over. Those of us who are moderately affluent, the middle class helps the people in the middle class to cross over. Without exception, we cannot cling to all phenomena; once you attach to the phenomenal characteristics, then no one can cultivate well.”)
Today we explain the practice of giving all of you should carefully experience from every little bit of your mind and expand to the end of the existence of open spaces and all over the universe. It is based on purity, equality, enlightenment, compassion and radiance. If you do not have this base, the practice of giving will not in perfection, let alone to become Buddha.
Just a moment ago, someone mentioned: “After listening to the Sutra explaining, I then realized the need to learn Buddha’s way.”
Since this is the case, we learn the Buddha’s way. We must understand learning the Buddha’s way is what principle of Buddhism.
Learning the Buddha’s way, is in fact the practice of giving, letting go of all afflictions of your body and mind which includes the inner body and outer body, inner mind and outer mind; without exception letting go of all is called the practice of giving. The moment you can truly let go, then your life changes from that moment onward. Then your life is no longer a human way of living, it is called an enlightened way of living. If you still have the concept of how “my” life should be, in that case it is all over.
Since, you are learning Buddha’s way, then you should change yours to be “Buddha living”, not the human way of living.
In addition, I have one thing to report to everyone; the practice of giving is to cultivate thought arising in the mind, that way is better. If you attach the most importance to materiality, it is very hard to have attainment.
Just like chanting Amitabha, chant at thought arising in the mind. It is also the same way to practicing of giving; when thought arising in the mind, your thought is clear with crystal clarity, so let it go. How to let it go? By chanting Amitabha to let go.
As a matter of fact, chanting Amitabha cultivates all Six Paramitas, but you need to know how to chant properly. There are no other tricks, it is precisely to change on your concept.
Why do modern people to cultivate oneself in right practice do not gain competent? It is because secular concept is too serious. Every day you practice of giving your secular concept away; this is same as chanting Amitabha.
Chanting Amitabha is not necessarily limited to using the mouth to chant, or must be the name of Amitabha; no, it is not so. Chanting Amitabha is a broad sense. The narrow way is chanting Amitabha Buddha, the broad way also chants Infinite Light or Infinite Life, which is equally chanting the name of Amitabha. Sigh! It is different. The eyes see to become sight, the ears hear to become sound, but all is Amitabha and all cultivates the practice of giving. The most essential fact is that you cannot have discrimination and attachment; this is the key!
Today we explain the practice of giving first, from the perspective of small to big, expanding from the individual to the end of the existence of open spaces and all over the universe. Therefore, if you genuinely want to chant Amitabha with competence, then let go of your body and mind.
In putting forth my body and mind devotedly to numberless lands,
this is to be known as to repay Buddha’s kindness.
